Our design process

Great design exists to tell a story. The story of how your product or company can help the people who need it; the story of how your organization makes the world a better place one case at a time. Without a clear process and careful planning, design reverts to little more than “pretty pictures” or “fun with Photoshop.”

At the zen kitchen, we start out each project by asking focused questions that help us determine your unique story and the purpose of the project we’re about to take on.

During our first discussions with you, we’ll listen very carefully and work with you to develop the whole picture of your business. With that picture in mind, we can make sure the project we do is the right fit for your specific needs, and we’ll make suggestions as necessary for alternatives that might be more appropriate to your situation and marketing needs.

Once scope, budget, and timeline are confirmed, contracts are signed and deposits received, it’s time to carefully research your market and develop an image for you that will get their attention. We also start looking into production methods to make sure that what we’re creating is not only beautiful and effective, it’s better for the planet as well.

When research is done, it’s time to start designing. We sketch, draw, ponder, throw Nerf balls at the door, and finally come up with the 2-3 best ideas for your project, from which you choose the option that works best. From there, we work with you to perfect the chosen concept and finish the piece. Then we start the production process; building websites and checking copy on brochures and booklets, making sure everything’s just right before it goes out into the world.

We work with printers and web hosting providers to make sure that each project remains on time, on budget, and stays eco-friendly and error-free.
